What a great game by the Mississippi State Bulldog basketball team against the Ole Miss Rebels. This was a complete and total dismantling of the 17th ranked team in the nation. Mississippi State dominated both ends of the court in an impressive 20 point win over the hated rival.
This team is really starting to come together. They had their struggles early in the year with a tough non-conference schedule, but this team has reeled off 9 wins in a row and is currently 5-0 in SEC play.
Charles Rhodes is getting healthy and had a break out game today with 26 points in 28 minutes of play. If he continues to play like this, this team will be very dangerous in the long run.
Defense wins championships, and this basketball team plays great defense. Jarvis Varnado is great on the inside defensively and leads the nation in blocked shots. Everyone else around him does a great job of cutting off penetration, and with him in the paint, they can take a few more chances with steals on the perimeter.
This team also has great guard play. Guard play is the key to winning when NCAA tournament time comes around. Jamont Gordon, Barry Stewart, Phil Turner, Ben Hansbrough, Riley Benock, and Ravern Johnson give Mississippi State one of the deepest set of guards in the nation.
On the inside, Mississippi State has Jarvis Varnado, Charles Rhodes, and are getting good contributions from both Elgin Bailey and Brian Johnson. Overall, this is a very deep team that has the potential to make a deep run if things continue to improve.
The present and future of this Mississippi State basketball team is very bright, and despite what some Ole Miss fans will say, Mississippi State remains the king of basketball in this state. It isn't even close.
Great job Bulldogs!! Keep it up!!
